A three-day cCWCS miniworkshop
This program will introduce participants to the case study pedagogy, and the variety of ways in which case studies can be taught. Attendees will be engaged in hands-on case activities, and will complete examples of both clicker cases and problem-based case studies. Attendees will then create at least one new case activity that they intend to implement at their home institution, and will be given the opportunity to teach the new case to other workshop participants.
Wednesday evening: Reception
Thursday: The workshop facilitator will present an introduction to case studies, and the use of case studies in
chemistry and science. The workshop facilitator will lead hands-on examples in which workshop participants will complete a clicker case and a problem-based case. The workshop facilitator will lead a discussion on how to plan for making new case materials. Participants will write at least one new case study. Participants will work in small groups to discuss and critique the new case materials.
Friday: Participants will finish writing the new cases and prepare for presenting/facilitating the case. The workshop participants will teach new cases to a live audience (two groups of 12 participants will conduct presentations simultaneously in two separate conference rooms; each participant will have 30 minutes to present, totaling 6 hours of presentations). When attendees present their cases, they will receive review forms from the other participants providing feedback on their case activity.
